It is very hard for the underprivileged like us to survive the winter in good health. On one hand, we are struggling with the chilly winds and the cold, which are getting worse every year due to climate issues. On the other, the prices of food and other necessities are increasing at an alarming rate.
I am thus requesting you to stand beside us one more time. Please support us and help us in whatever way you can. I am sure that this year, with your help, more of us will be able to embrace warmth in this coming winter.”
The Physically-challenged Development Foundation (PDF) is back again with the second season of PROJECT MITA, a grand-scale distribution of winter clothes and blankets all throughout Bangladesh. Last year, PDF was able to conduct the distribution to 1,500 people in 12 different locations, mostly in Dhaka and Rajshahi. This year, it will take a much bigger step, planning the event to be conducted throughout uncountable locations, with majority being outside of the Dhaka district. Furthermore, PROJECT MITA will impact approximately 5,000 people this year.
Hundreds of people die in Bangladesh every year because of the biting cold of winter. Millions more are considerably affected as about half of the country’s population lives under the poverty line; an even higher percentage lives in rural areas, where the cold weather is more prominent. Winters become progressively worse as we move outside of Dhaka; the temperature gets lower, especially in the northern part of the country, and the chilly winds get stronger, posing both a serious health and economic threat, mostly for the underprivileged. Additionally, winters are getting harsher every year due to climatic changes caused by global warming.
PDF aims to conduct PROJECT MITA in the most resourceful way possible. It plans to raise funds to purchase new warm clothes and blankets, as they will be more effective against the cold than torn-away, old clothes. PROJECT MITA also involves the collection of good quality winter clothes. It will ensure a wider participation by welcoming any amount of donation. As mentioned before, the ones affected most by the bad weather are those living outside of Dhaka; PDF has thus planned to conduct distribution phases in various areas outside of Dhaka.
Aside from helping the underprivileged, PDF is also looking forward to involve as many volunteers as possible and provide them with extensive social work training. In conclusion, through PROJECT MITA, PDF seeks blessings for its most important project yet – PROJECT LIGHT HOUSE.
Starting from the beginning of December, PDF will be fundraising for PROJECT MITA. This will involve institutional fundraising in schools and universities. It will also include the sale of fundraising items, such as calendars, stickers, and T-shirts. There will also be collection of funds in markets and public places, as well as personal and corporate donations.
Any personal donation will be collected by the PDF branch executives.
Distribution will begin as soon as enough funds are collected, and will continue until January 15. For each location, PDF will recruit a team of volunteers; to each team will be assigned a team leader to supervise the team’s activity.
Any interested person can offer to volunteer through an online registration portal.
